The Relationship of the Oath and the Biblical Verse "This is it " The Oath of Partial Admission , whose principles are illustrated in Mishnah Shebuoth VI . 1 ; VI . 1 , is not mentioned in the Bible . This Oath is imposed by the judges on one who admits a portion of the claim denying the rest . By taking the oath this claim is dismissed and he is not liable for payment . How ever , if the defendant should deny the entire claim , he is exempt from oath-taking . Although this oath is not found in Biblical sources , it is 3 related , however , by the Mechilta de Rabbi Ishmael to the 4 scriptual verse "This is if ' .
