Because this was the first time that oneness experiences were primed in the laboratory, Berger ( 2022 ) conducted this priming in two different ways . In Studies 1 and 3, oneness was primed with a story describing the actor’s experience of oneness with the universe, whereas in Studies 2 and 4, oneness was primed with a mandala painting - a geometric design that, in Hindu and Buddhist traditions, represents the relation to the infinite and the world beyond minds and bodies . Participants in the control groups were primed with neutral stimuli as similar as possible to the stimuli ( text, painting ) used in the oneness condition . Across the four studies, findings for attachment - anxious participants were fairly consistent and fitted the main hypotheses . Specifically, participants scoring relatively high on attachment anxiety who were exposed to oneness - eliciting primes ( as compared to neutral primes ) showed an increased state - like sense of attachment security, which was also manifested in higher preference for novel stimuli . Whereas attachment anxiety was associated with lower levels of state - like attachment security and lower preference of novel stimuli in the neutral conditions, these associations weakened and in fact became non - significant in the oneness conditions - due to an increase in attachment - anxious participants’ felt security and preference of novel stimuli . At the same time, Berger ( 2022 ) found that the effects of making contextually salient the sense of oneness were not significant among participants scoring relatively low on attachment anxiety ( more secure ) or among participants scoring high in attachment avoidance . Probably, for attachment - secure people, the experimental priming of oneness experiences had no observable effect, because these individuals already hold a solid sense of attachment security and positive attitudes toward novelty without this kind of experiences . In other words, attachment - secure people’s positive working models and comforting interactions with others might sustain felt security and confident exploration . In this case, they might not need any sense of being “one” with the universe in order to feel safe and secure . With regard to attachment - avoidant people, Berger's ( 2022 ) findings might be a reflection of their defensive tendencies to
