Text , Subtext and Context : a Narrative Perspective on Ddialogue Rivka Tuval-Mashiach This article presents core concepts of the narrative approach and examines the applicability of this methodology in the context of research on dialogue . The theoretical foundations of both fields are defined while proposing that the use of narrative tools will be fruitful in understanding dialogue . Dialogical texts are explored through three analytical perspectives . The first examines the text in terms of its ’ form and content . The second illuminates the meaning of silence during dialogue and the third relates to the multiple contexts in which the dialogue is located . Thus , narrative tools broaden our understanding of dialogue as a text which both represents the identities of participants and functions as a product of these identities .
