VII PREFACE In part I of this collection of Judaeo - Arabic texts in phonetic spelling from the end of the 1 st millennium we presented a selection of texts relating directly to the Hebrew Bible, viz . glossaries ( section A ) , translations section B ) and compositions on Biblical subjects ( section C ) . In the ( present part II we offer material which is not directly connected to Biblical subjects . The eighteen items published here have been divided into two sections : halakhic and literary ( section D ) and popular ( section E ) . Section D opens with two transmissions ( D1 and D2 ) of an Arabic translation of Halakhot Pesuqot , a Talmudic composition from Geonic Babylonia . These are the longest texts in the book and from several points of view also the most important . The remaining items in this section ( D3 - D9 ) are considerably shorter and represent various types and levels of literary activity .
