7.2.1. Absalom Murders Amnon and Flees to the King of Geshur (23–29)

481 Family Disputes and National Revolts In his first request, Absalom invites all the princes ; then he comes to the king and invites him with his entourage to come with him to the celebration at Baal Hazor at Mount Ephraim north of Jerusalem . The king refuses to come, despite Absalom’s entreaty . Then Absalom asks for permission to invite his brother Amnon, but the king refuses as well . Eventually, after Absalom’s insistent requests, the king orders Amnon and all the other princes to go to the celebration . The all - knowing narrator does not disclose Absalom’s original plan : does he intend to kill both the king and Amnon ? There is no information about any arrangements and propaganda for generating a rebellion . The narrator leaves the readers in dark on this issue . The an eye for an eye symmetry is discernible .
