7.1.1.1. The Exposition (13:1–2)

We shall return to this below . The reader may wonder what kind of “love” it is . The all - knowing narrator penetrates the inner world of Amnon, and describes it with he loves her, while the narrator in his descrip - , אהב : three verbs : the first tion seems to explain, because she was “beautiful”, which the reader may guess at first sight that it is the normal love of a young man for a young beautiful woman . However, she is his half sister and a princess, ,” ויצר “ : both may prevent him any access to get her . The second verb contains a double - meaning : ( 1 ) the feeling of distress ( Gen 32 : 8 ) ; ( 2 ) the feeling of lust, desire ( Gen 8 : 21 ) .
