6.3.2.1. Gaps that Need Filling in the Story of David and Bathsheba

427 David, Bathsheba, Uriah, Joab and Nathan second sphere is the lack of the narrator’s reactions or judgment to the actions of his characters throughout the whole chapter ( 11 ) , except for the last verse ( 27 b ) . Reading the story as it is vis - a - vis the story after the filling of the gaps creates a process of shock . Devoid of any feelings and judgments, the story is written in understatement style . After the gap filling, however, the reader understands the severity of the activity of the characters and the sad results . It creates an irony throughout the story, which demonstrates the poetic quality and defines the story as Literature to be explored by researchers of the literary discipline . After the theoretical presentation, the above scholars demonstrated a close reading followed by gap filling emphasizing the irony applied by the narrator in each stage .
