5.4.2.1. David’s Wars in the Theological Historiography of the Book of Samuel

After a chapter dedicated to David’s efforts to bring the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem ( Chap 6 ) , David asks through Nathan the Prophet about the possibility of building a house for the Lord . The positive answer is followed by a negative one . Yet Nathan promises David a different “house”—an everlasting dynasty, and makes other promises for a good future for David, his son, the dynasty and the people of Israel ( Chap 7 ) . The exposition to the oracle states that it happens after the king sat in the special house he had built and the Lord had granted him a rest from all his enemies ( v . 1 ) .
