109 Relationship Between Saul and David both “souls”, by the making of a covenant with David ( see below ) , and by giving David his robe, garments, girdle, and weapons . On the surface, the latter gesture of goodwill means that Jonathan sacrifices his best gear and arms supplying them to David for his service as a military commander .
