On the Path of the Forgotten Monument: DISCOVERING THE TRUE STORY OF TURKISH AVIATION'S FIRST MARTYRS

History of Turkish aviation starts as early as 1910 , when Harbiye Nazin ( Minister of War ) Mahmut $ evket Pa $ a requested the Ottoman military attaches in Europe to report on developments regarding aviation . Although the Ottoman Army established military aviation and used airpower much before any Furopean state , there is a general lack of publications regarding history of Turkish aviation . Having being allured by this void of information , a quest to research the history of Turkish aviation and to publish only fact based information started in early 1970 s . Pursuing the possible source of an article published in the " Born in 1 Battle ' magazine , it became possible to establish contact with Dr . Dov Gavish from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in May 1996 / The cooperation regarding the exchange of information on Turkish aviation has proven to be most fruitful .
