Ben Shmulevitch: Wolf

The Testimony of Zvi Shmulevitch Young Artists–––Edinburgh In May 2016 , at the Edinburgh College of Art , I unveiled a book honoring the testimony of my grandfather , Zvi Shmulevitch . Like many Jews of his generation , Zvi had a remarkable story as a Holocaust survivor . As intriguing as his survival was , one which involved imprisonment in Auschwitz and liberation from Dachau , his past was barely spoken of up until his passing in 2015 , and his life before emigrating to pre-state Israel in 1947 has been somewhat of a mystery to me . As I grew older I became more curious about what happened to my grandfather , but I was often met by a reluctance to uncover the wounds which I knew were there . I have felt a certain emotional distance that exists in many families with respect to the events of the Holocaust .
