Introduction

The two British offensives which followed the capture of Beer Sheva are referred to in British military history as the "Philistia Pursuit" and the "Capture of the Junction Station " . Because of the vague geographical definition of these sites and the battle lines on military maps , these names do not define the battle zones with complete accuracy . The offensives took place across the entire southern region , from the Philistia Plain ( in the west ) to the Judean Hills ( to the east ) . Decisive battles occurred simultaneously in both regions . In the west , there were major battles at Burkah ( near Gan Yavne ) and at "Brown Hill" ( Kibbutz Hazor ) , followed by the battle of Katra ( Gedera ) and Mughar ( near Givat Brener ) . To the east , there were offensive attacks on the Turks at the foot of Tell es Safi ( Kfar Menachem ) and Abu Shushe ( Karmei Yosef ) .
