Thus, large sections in the society that ended conflict but found themselves immersed in a new one, would not celebrate the new approach, and occasionally can view the former enemy as still playing certain role in forming the new conflict . Most cases of external post - conflict between states or political blocks that led to a new conflict, related to the end of the global conflict of the Cold - War . The new conflict revealed itself in different forms, mostly in ex - Communist countries of Eastern and Southern Europe . The most infamous conflict erupted in former Yugoslavia when the end of Communism opened a period of a war between the ethnic groups that populated the country, thus leading to violent disintegration and national recreation of new states .
