Ido Bar-El , artist , living and working in Tel Aviv Installation is like painting and photography , sculpture and video-art - it is yet another medium . When artistic practice is predictable , then even in the case of the best of artists , the magic word "installation " cannot provide a fig leaf for a boring exhibition or for mere mediocre works . Trendiness attests to provinciality rather than hipness ( namely constant awareness , new sensibility , and , of course , openness ) . The result is , at times , sad : how things become academic , as if deriving from the school of this or that current trend ; how they are made to satisfy a v taste consensus' of sorts . That which is academic is , post factum , boring and riskless . The cliche about x standing the test of time * and the speed in which the trendy becomes obsolete and irrelevant is valid here as well . Likewise , the twist dance of the artistic meta-discourse becomes not even nostalgic , but old . For me , choosing to be an art...
