Individualized learning breaks through the age barrier . The gifted and the hard-working move through the syllabuses faster than others . Older pupils might be permitted to shorten their pre-university learning by one or more years . Through breaking away from the constraints of the age barrier , we would give practical recognition to the fact that the pupils' time is valuable . It ought not to be spent merely to accommodate slower learners . ( This is of special importance because of the three-year Army service in Israel . )
