The Deuteronomistic Composition : Scope and Literary Structure Ge r s h o n Ga l i l The so - called ’Deuteronomistic History‘ ( which Iprefer to call : the ’Deuteronomistic Composition‘ ) was composed in Babylonia, ca . 560 BCE by a single author : the ’Deuteronomist‘ ( Dtr ) . In my opinion, Deuteronomy is the preface to the Deuteronomistic composition, and the book of Jeremiah seals it ; in Deuteronomy the path was charted and the norms were fixed . In the main body of the composition, the books of Joshua to Kings, a detailed account of the history of the relationship between God and Israel was presented, from the conquest of the land to the destruction of the Temple and the loss of the good land . The book of Jeremiah, which concludes the composition, discusses at length the decline and fall of Judah, analyzes the sins that led to the destruction and at the same time dispatches the gospel to the exiles .
