This book is based on a research project commissioned by the TAKAM ( united Kibbutz Movement ) and by the Institute for Social Science of Yad Tabenkin . The research focused on answers of second generation kibbutz youth to the question : To what extent does kibbutz society and its educational system encourage leadership and creativity or to what degree does it impede these characteristics ? A study showed that the participation of the second generation in leading positions in social and political roles in the kibbutz movement is low compared to their percentage in the kibbutz population . This along with the publication of various second generation people claiming that they had been "crippled" in their emotional and intellectual development triggered this research . Interviews were conducted with fifty kibbutz­born people between the ages of twenty­eight to fifty and with five kibbutz members who were not born on the kibbutz .
