Policy Paper 163 | Torah Learning and Secular Studiesiv In recent years, however, there has been a major effort by the State of New York, where most American Hassidim live, to upgrade secular studies in Hassidic schools . The differences between the schools of the Yeshivish sectors in the two countries are greater : those in the United States devote more hours to teaching secular studies than their counterparts in Israel do, and for more years .
