ABSTRACT

Policy Paper 154 : Constitutional Reviewiv can be used to parse administrative actions . Taken together, these legal developments augmented the court’s involvement in politics . Finally, the court gave the Basic Laws of 1992, especially Human Dignity and Liberty, a broad interpretation that permits it to gauge the constitutionality of laws that infringe rights that are not explicitly stated in the Basic Laws, such as freedom of expression and the right to equality . All of these have significantly expanded the power of the judiciary vis - à - vis the political authorities . The political authorities, especially the Knesset and Government, have taken note of the constitutional revolution . They are aware of the limits it sets to their legislative and executive power and of the court’s authority to strike down laws .
