The Freedom to Disdain The Orthodox Jewish Hatred of Christianity in the Era of Interfaith Tolerance Karma Ben Johanan One of the obvious characteristics of the liberal worldview is interfaith tolerance . Th e assumption is that processes of modernization and liberalization in conservative institutions dissolve old rivalries and encourage fraternity , reconciliation , and acceptance of the other . In this article I put this assumption to the test through a discussion of the Orthodox rabbinical attitude towards Christianity during the last few decades . I claim that secularization , the strengthening of liberalism in the West , and the establishment of the State of Israel reawakened an anti - Christian discourse within Jewish circles and pushed moderate rabbinical traditions to the margins .
