After the city ’ s reunification in 1967 the majority of the Jewish national religious community , despite its messianic enthusiasm , complied with the Chief Rabbinate ’ s injunction not to visit the site . Only a handful of diehards , whom some labeled fanatic , violated the ruling and ascended the mount . Later this minority began preparing for the construction of the Third Temple .
