MONOGRAPH SERIES This book was published with the assistance of KKL - JNF Sarina Chen ‘ Speedily in Our Days ’… The Temple Mount Activists and the Nationalist - Religious Society in Israel The Temple Mount in Jerusalem is the holiest spot on earth for the Jewish people . After the city ’ s reunification in 1967 the majority of the Jewish national religious community , despite its messianic enthusiasm , complied with the Chief Rabbinate ’ s injunction not to visit the site . Only a handful of diehards , whom some labeled fanatic , violated the ruling and ascended the mount . Later this minority began preparing for the construction of the Third Temple . Forty - nine years later , the Temple Mount is still the focal point of the national religious camp . After its rabbis declared it a mitzva ( religious commandment ) to ascend the mount , many members of the group started visiting the site .
