Abstract

kashrut market operates without government interference but with voluntary regulation , although it is modified to the Israeli context . The main principles of the proposed model are as follows : ( 1 ) There is a demand for kashrut services in Israel , and the state must verify that this service is provided in an optimal fashion . ( 2 ) The state will not be involved in kashrut certification or setting kashrut standards ; its role will be limited to licensing and overseeing the kashrut market . ) 3 ( Kashrut certification will be provided by private agencies licensed to do so . We propose the establishment of a national kashrut authority that will regulate the administrative aspects of the kashrut market – issuing licenses to private kashrut certification agencies , ensuring that they operate with full transparency , and preventing kashrut fraud .
