Solomon issaci’s ) View Avraham Grossman In Rashi’s opinion , as evidenced in his responsa and his biblical and talmudic exegesis , a rabbinic scholar ( talmid a am ) has six primary obligations : the in-struction of the Jewish public in Torah study ; literary undertakings according to the needs of his generation ; encouragement of his students to creativity ; moral encouragement in the face of hostile anti-Jewish propaganda ; peace-making and reconciliation , and a conscientiousness as development and maintenance of per-sonal integrity and positive personal traits . Most of these obligations appear al-ready in classical rabbinic literature , but the great emphasis placed on them in Rashi’s works , as well as the artificial connections he makes between them and biblical texts , point to their central place in his doctrine .
