( Proponents of the social-democratic approach will of course view this as worrisome , and not as cause for celebration . ) Israelis’ life satisfaction ( the OECD’s Better Life Index ) is comparatively high ( as found in our survey as well ) . Israel also scores relatively high in the area of economic policy ( an indicator of the Bertelsmann Stiftung ) , as reflected in government performance in such areas as inflation , state deficit , and GNP . However , Israel received mediocre scores in two social / economic indicators : perception of political corruption ( Transparency International ) , and community support network ( OECD - Better Life Index ) , that is , the sense of having a social “ safety net" ; willingness to help strangers ; and degree of participation in volunteer activities .
