excessive humanism in him , rare in the community of Israeli artists . Then and now , Kadishman has remained all emotion , in his work , art , and private life alike . He is committed to the people around him and to his works , and is reluctant to part with them even for a fair price . After visiting his recent exhibition at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art , it became clear to me that the time has come to exhibit Kadishman at the Gallery , in an exhibition of small sculpture . A chamber-exhibition that will bring together the Birth sculptures and the Fallen Leaves sculptures , for life and death are one in his work . It has been long since we have encountered a body of work comprising sculptures that are small in size yet sublime in essence , scores of sculptures that generate a forest of cut iron . Kadishman's sculptures are the reality of our life , a reality of suffering , pain , bereavement , "defoliation , " death , sacrifice of children and , forever - great hope for rebirth . The opposition and proximity between birth and death are embodied by their very juxtaposition in a crowded , inseparable exhibit ... Kadishman draws his ideas , swiftly , wondrously , ideas which are the sculptures cut from iron and steel ; cutouts that have become a work bearing historical significance for the nation ' s fate in its land . The iron sculptures resemble their creator : upright , full of another spirit of time , and like pain - they never end where their contours do . They are the vein , the tune , the silent statement of a poetic line . When I entered the storeroom to select works for the exhibition , I encountered familiar themes never exhibited in unison . They appeared like " sculpture forests " ... I saw the sculptures breathing the room ' s dense air in the darkness illuminated by infiltrating rays of sun . They had to be separated in order to understand where one ends and another begins . Their posture was human , and their social life appeared stormy , like a dusty orgy of figures , embracing , touching one another , as if preparing to exchange body parts ... The exhibition "Sculptures from Storage" features a selection of sculptures in the Gallery ' s two spaces , alongside three new paintings ? : two large-scale pieces executed in the last year , and another painting depicting three donkeys that recount the story of the journey toward the Binding of Isaac . The paintings inspire a sense of optimism via blue coloration of better , calmer days in the country ' s landscapes . Kadishman the sculptor marks nature as a shepherd , returning us to the earth ; his paintings reinstate the Israeli audience with the sense of security in a land which is indeed a "homeland .
