Abstract

Policy Paper 182 | Changes in the Tasks and Skills Required of Israeli Workersiv each occupation and merging it with rich administrative data on workers over a period of two decades, this study investigates and characterizes the changing trends in demand for tasks in the Israeli labor market . Our analysis provides several new findings of note . We find that since the start of the 21 st century, there has been a significant increase in the requirement for cognitive tasks in the local labor market . This is the case especially in tasks that require analytical thinking ( which are central to occupations such as engineering, software development, and financial consulting ) , and to a lesser extent in the need for cognitive interpersonal tasks ( which are required in occupations such as professional services management or registered nursing ) .
